Susan Melians is vice president of customer service and external relations for Gulf Power, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy. She was appointed to this role in January 2019. Susan previously served as vice president of operations services for power delivery for Florida Power & Light Company, another subsidiary of NextEra Energy. In this role, she was responsible for managing key functions including safety, quality and analytics, compliance and regulatory, customer experience, training and development and employee programs.
Susan worked for Florida Power & Light Company for more than 30 years serving in various positions within the distribution, marketing, external affairs and customer service business units. Prior to joining power delivery, Susan served as vice president of human resources for FPL and played a critical role in shaping the future workforce and programs supporting employee engagement, diversity and organizational culture.
Prior to joining the HR business unit, she served as director of the customer care organization. During her tenure with customer care, the organization received repeated national recognition for its outstanding performance in the quality of service provided to FPL customers.
Susan has served the community in a variety of roles, including as a board member for the American Red Cross, Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter and for the Boys and Girls Club of Martin County. She is on the executive council of the Center for Energy Workforce Development and is involved with STEM-related initiatives including FIRST Robotics. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from Auburn University and a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University.
